About me

-->
I started dancing when I was 10 years old. During the teenage I practiced many different forms of dance, from African dance to flamenco and from classical ballet to jazz.

In 1997 I got accepted in the University College of Dance (Danshögskolan) in Stockholm, Sweden. I accomplished the training and education programme in dance pedagogy with specialization in jazz dance. I had wonderful teachers who pulled me deeper and deeper into the secrets of dance and kindled my interest in pedagogy and teaching.

During these years I got a versatile and profound understanding about different dance techniques and, in particular jazz dance. Ms Jane Darling and Mr Matt Mattox himself gave me very fundamental education in Mattox technique which is considered one of the main modern jazz techniques. I have had also opportunities to participate Ms Lynn Simonson’s dance courses, and thus I have had access to another well-known and respected modern jazz dance technique.

I graduated from the University College of Dance in Stockholm in 2000. Since then I have taught dance in different dance schools in Finland as well as in the University of Jyväskylä. I have taught people of different ages (4 - 50 years old) and abilities. I have experience teaching jazz dance, classical ballet and contemporary dance in different levels from beginners to advanced. I have also taught tap dance for beginners and in intermediate level.

While working in Jyväskylä I had the opportunity to supervise dance teacher–students in their pedagogical and practical training. Besides teaching I’ve worked as a dancer in musicals like West Side Story and in P.D.C. Pori Dance Company.

My special interest in the human body and kinesiology led me to study physiotherapy in 2004. I graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2007. With these two inter-related topics, dance and physiotherapy; I have gotten wider and more versatile understanding of teaching dance to young and also to older dancers. Years 2006-2009 I worked as a physiotherapist in a private hospital in Finland.

The last years I've been moving around; 2009-2010 I was living in Malaysia and freelancing in both dance and physiotherapy fields. From September 2010 to June 2013 I worked as a dance teacher in Doha, Qatar.
And now I have relocated to New Zealand. With enthusiasm, I'm starting to explore the dance life here in Auckland.
